Hi, I'm Shanel.
MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner committed to making mental health care feel compassionate, understandable, and within reach.
My story
I'm Shanel Demus, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Calming Bloom.
Throughout my nursing career, I have seen how deeply mental health affects every part of a person's life — and how often people carry their struggles quietly. I believe everyone deserves a space where they can feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment.
Calming Bloom began as a quiet idea: to create a warm, trustworthy space where mental health education feels less clinical and more human. A place where people can better understand their minds, find encouragement during difficult seasons, and feel empowered to take an active role in their well-being.
Whether you are navigating your own mental health journey, supporting someone you love, or simply learning how to care for yourself more intentionally, you are welcome here.
You do not have to be in crisis to care for your mind. Sometimes healing begins with understanding — and every person deserves the opportunity to bloom.
The information shared through Calming Bloom is intended for education and encouragement and does not replace individualized evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment from a qualified healthcare professional.
My approach
Compassion first
You deserve to feel heard, respected, and supported. Mental health conversations should be met with warmth and curiosity — not shame or judgment.
Grounded in evidence
Information is guided by clinical training and evidence-based practice, then translated into clear, practical language you can use in everyday life.
Centered on the whole person
Mental wellness is influenced by your experiences, relationships, environment, culture, and physical health. My approach recognizes the person behind the symptoms and honors each individual's unique journey.
